Death Note, Movie, Anime

Find these faces familiar? Of course, they are from the “Death Note” movie that was screened last year. Tatsuya Fujiwara(left) played the role of Yagami Light (Kira), Kenichi Matsuyama(middle) played the role of L and Erika Toda played the role of Amane Misa.
For me, i’ve watched the 2 “Death Note” movies before i even lay my hands on the anime. However, this movie gave me a rough idea of what the story is about. Since it is considered a 4 hours show, it is expected that the storyline will be quite different to the anime. Even though the show is cut short, i still find the film interesting, probably one of the best movies i’ve watched so far. Every part of the show is able to grab hold of my attention. I felt impelled to pay attention as missing any details may lead to a misunderstanding of the whole story. Its really intriguing to see both Light and L analysing the situation and trying to outwit each other. Must say the measures they took to prevent being killed is really ingenious, something unexpected and not something which most of the people can think of easily.

Well same thing about the anime, never fails to amuse me. Misa is really lucky that 2 shinigami actually sacrificed themselves in order to lengthen Misa’s lifespan. There are some major differences between the anime and the movie. In the movie, L managed to outwit Light and Light died earlier than L, however in the anime, L was defeated by Light and of course DIED! Although i expected changes, but the fact that L was defeated caught me by surprise. I thought it was just like the movie, L playing dead and later came out and defeated Light, but that didn’t happen.

I think after the death of L, the anime is not longer as exciting as the first part. There are appearance of new characters. This guy about it known as Mello. He is one of the so-called “successor” of L. Frankly speaking, i don’t really like this guy. He has the appearance of a girl, yet behaves like a man, probably some mutation occured in his X and Y genes. Mello became a baddy after the other guy was choosen to be L’s successor. At the later part of the show, he turned good again. His habit is to eat chocolate, oh looks like this month is his month. Anyway, he was killed by the Death Note in the end.

Now this guy is known as Near, another L wannabe. Near is the successor of L. Yes he is smart but not as smart as L. He said himself that only by combining forces with Mello can they outwit L. Just feels that he is someone who trys to act like L but doesn’t work. His habit is to curl his hair with his fingers. There is nothing much to say about Near except that he defeated Kira with the self-sacrifice of Mello.
Not sure about others but in my school, there was once a trend where most of the people will be walking around, holding a “Death Note” manga or discussing about the movie. “Between L and Light, who is better?” was a controversial issue then. For me, i don’t have any hatred or sense of distaste towards any of them, but if i have to choose, i’ll support L because some of Light’s actions were kinda drastic. Anyway, who got the last laugh? HAHAHA none other than Near……because L, Light and Mello all died in the end! Overall, the 37 episodes series was enjoyable. =]

Yeah, the series, although still really good, starts heading downwards when the second arc begins… Near and Mello just aren’t as likable as L.
I also wanted to see Light win, but that wasn’t gonna happen.
I prefer the anime over the manga over the movie; Tatsuya Fujiwara did a terrible job as Light IMO, and he just about ruined the movies for me.
how come? i thought tatsuya did a pretty good job there.
He doesn’t look anything like Light (which can be said for Misa I suppose, but anyway) and I didn’t really feel Light’s confidence and determination from Tatsuya.
I guess he just didn’t click for me. I never felt Light’s personality from his acting.
I was shocked when L died as well. I mean, he’s the main character, and he just died? I never got past to reading about M&Ns.
I agree. one of the best movie ever =D
I liked Light’s death in the anime better than the movie lol, he was a little less pitiful in the end. It’s a shame that Wataru dies in both, no credit usually goes the the aiding side character. The movie did a great job of making half of the series into two movies and the movies were never dull unlike 1/4 of the anime episodes which were boring.
@icystorm: i didn’t felt this way probably because i watched the movie before the anime. But you’ve got a point there, now that u mention it, Tatsuya doesn’t present much of Light’s determination, but he sure did well in presenting Light’s intelligent and confidence.
@§oL: L’s death was a surprise to me too! you did the right thing to not continue the story lol, cause the M&N part is not very interesting. (even their name sounds like chocolate).
@choo23: true true =D
@AS: That old man died in both anime and movie even when he did nothing offensive, so sad. I agree with you, good thing the movie didn’t show the M&N part! And Light’s death in the anime was more dramatic than in the movie, much more interesting haha. Sadcase for L though, died in the anime without leaving any last words.
I read till L’s portion, M&N never got me interested.
love it! XD death note is and has been my favorite anime for quite some time!
